Dschang is a town in the West Region of Cameroon, set in the cool, green highlands of the Bamileke country at around 1,400 metres, which give it a mild climate unusual for the tropics and a long history as a hill retreat. It is a lively regional and university town, known for its pleasant upland setting, the surrounding Bamileke chiefdoms and their traditional architecture, the Dschang Museum of Civilisations showcasing the peoples of Cameroon, and the nearby crater lakes and green hills of the western highlands. The colonial-era climatic station and its lake add to the town's appeal as a base for exploring one of Cameroon's most scenic and culturally rich regions. The elevation keeps temperatures comfortable year-round; the drier months, roughly November to February, are the easiest for travel, avoiding the heavy rains of the highland wet season.
