DOC is a code associated with Dornoch, a small and historic town on the east coast of the Scottish Highlands, in the county of Sutherland in the far north of Scotland. Set on a sunny stretch of coast by the Dornoch Firth, the town is famous above all for golf: the Royal Dornoch Golf Club is regularly ranked among the finest links courses in the world. Dornoch also has a charming little medieval cathedral, a historic centre of stone houses, and long sandy beaches and dunes nearby. It makes a peaceful base for exploring the northern Highlands, with their mountains, castles and coastline. Dornoch has only a small airfield; most visitors arrive via Inverness Airport to the south, or by road and rail through the Highlands. The climate is cool and often breezy, mildest and brightest in summer, the main season for golf and touring.
