Dili is the capital and largest city of Timor-Leste (East Timor), a coastal city on the north shore of the island of Timor in Southeast Asia, served by Presidente Nicolau Lobato (Comoro) International Airport. A relaxed, low-rise seaside capital with a strong Portuguese colonial legacy and a moving recent history of independence, it is the country's main gateway and the base for exploring one of Asia's youngest and least-visited nations. Its landmarks include the towering Cristo Rei statue on Cape Fatucama, reached by a scenic clifftop staircase with views over the bay and out to Atauro Island, along with the Resistance Museum, the seafront and Portuguese-era buildings. Just offshore, Atauro Island offers some of the world's richest reef diving. The tropical climate has a dry season roughly May to November, which is the most comfortable and popular time to visit.
