CRU is the airport code for Lauriston Airport, on Carriacou, the largest of the Grenadine islands belonging to Grenada, in the southeastern Caribbean, north of the main island of Grenada. Carriacou is a small, unspoilt island long known as the Land of Reefs, ringed by some of the finest and healthiest coral reefs in the region, and is a quiet, friendly place of beaches, hills and traditional village life. It has a rich seafaring heritage, and the village of Windward is famous for its wooden boat-building, a craft brought by Scottish settlers and passed down the generations, celebrated each year at the Carriacou Regatta. With clear water and reefs, it is a haven for sailing, diving and snorkelling. Carriacou is reached by flights into Lauriston Airport from Grenada and by the ferry from the capital, St George's. The climate is warm and tropical, with a wetter season later in the year.
