Choiseul Bay is a small settlement in the far northwest of the Solomon Islands, in the South Pacific, serving as the provincial centre for Choiseul Province. It lies at the northern end of Choiseul, a large, rugged and heavily forested island, one of the more remote and least-developed parts of the country, close to the border with Papua New Guinea's Bougainville. The area is a place of dense rainforest, rivers, reefs and traditional village life, with little in the way of tourism or services. The provincial headquarters are based nearby on the small Taro Island. This is a destination for the truly adventurous rather than the casual visitor, of interest for its wild nature and cultures. Choiseul Bay is reached by small aircraft to the local airstrip and by boat, with connections through the capital, Honiara. The climate is hot, humid and tropical, with heavy rainfall.
