Dibba, on the Musandam Peninsula of Oman, is one of the gateways to the Omani fjords - the dramatic, cliff-lined inlets of the Arabian Peninsula's northern tip, often called the Norway of Arabia. Dibba (Dibba Al-Bayah on the Omani side) sits on the peninsula's east coast where the Hajar Mountains plunge into the Gulf of Oman, and is a popular launching point for traditional wooden dhow cruises into the turquoise fjords, with snorkelling, dolphin-watching and secluded coves. The wider Musandam - an Omani exclave separated from the rest of the country by the UAE - centres on the town of Khasab further north, famed for its fjord scenery and cruises. Dibba is easily reached by road from Dubai and the UAE's east coast, making it a popular day-trip and weekend escape. The cooler months (roughly October to April) are the ideal season, avoiding the intense summer heat.
