Buno Bedele is a zone of the Oromia Region in western Ethiopia, with its administrative centre at the town of Bedele. Set in the green, well-watered highlands of the country's south-west, it lies at the heart of one of Ethiopia's important coffee-growing regions - the wider Buno and Illubabor country, where Arabica coffee thrives - and the town of Bedele is also nationally known as the home of a major brewery. This is fertile, hilly farming country of coffee forests, rivers and traditional Oromo culture, well off the main tourist routes but part of the lush south-west that Ethiopians associate with coffee's homeland. For travellers it is chiefly a regional centre reached overland from Jimma or Nekemte. Ethiopia's highland climate is temperate; the drier months, broadly October to May, are the more comfortable time for travel, avoiding the main summer rains.
