Anyang is a city in northern Henan Province, China, best known as the home of Yin Xu - the ruins of Yin, the last capital of the Bronze Age Shang dynasty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was here, on the banks of the Huan River northwest of the modern city, that the oracle bones bearing the earliest known Chinese writing were unearthed, making Anyang one of the most important archaeological sites in the country and a cornerstone of ancient Chinese history.
