ABT is the airport code for Al-Baha Airport, also known as Al Aqiq Airport, serving Al-Baha, the capital of the Al-Baha region in the southwest of Saudi Arabia. Al-Baha is one of the kingdom's most beautiful and unusual regions, a cool, green highland area in the Sarawat mountains, quite different from the deserts of much of the country. It is known for its forests, its terraced hillsides and its old stone villages and watchtowers, set among mountains that catch more rain than the lowlands. The area is a popular summer retreat for Saudis escaping the heat, with cooler air, green scenery and dramatic escarpments dropping toward the Red Sea coast. Al-Baha is reached by flights into its airport, from Riyadh, Jeddah and other cities, and by mountain roads. The climate is mild for Saudi Arabia thanks to the altitude, cooler and greener than the lowlands.
