There is no car rental desk waiting at Kauhava's airfield, because there are no airline flights to meet: the base's military era ended in December 2014 and the field now operates as a general-aviation and gliding site. Renters bound for Kauhava - a South Ostrobothnia town known for its knife-making heritage and the PowerPark amusement area nearby - normally pick a car up in Seinajoki, about 40 minutes south, or at Vaasa on the coast, and drive in on Route 19. Kauhava also sits on the Seinajoki-Oulu rail line, so arriving by train and collecting a delivered or city-branch car is practical. In winter, Finnish law requires winter tyres in wintry conditions; rentals come fitted in season.
