Bahia Cupica is a remote bay on the Pacific coast of the Choco region in northwestern Colombia, part of a wild, rainforested and little-developed shoreline where accommodation is limited and nature-focused. There are no large hotels here; visitors typically stay in small ecolodges and rustic cabins, the cabanas, that sit between the jungle and the sea, often as part of a package built around wildlife and the ocean. The great draw is nature: this stretch of coast, near Bahia Solano and the Utria National Park, is famous for humpback whales, which come to breed and calve roughly between July and October, as well as sea turtles, birds and empty beaches. Because it is remote, the area is reached mainly by small aircraft to nearby airstrips and then by boat, so trips are usually arranged in advance. The climate is hot, humid and very rainy.
