YTG is a code associated with Sullivan Bay, a remote floating village on the coast of British Columbia, in western Canada, on the edge of the Broughton Archipelago north of Vancouver Island. It is a most unusual place: with the forested mountains plunging straight into deep water, there is no room to build on land, and so the whole community floats, a cluster of wooden buildings and float homes on the water, with a marina, a store and a small restaurant. Sullivan Bay grew up as a seaplane base and fishing station, and today it is a haven for boaters and floatplanes exploring the maze of islands, inlets and rich waters of the Broughtons, a coast famous for its whales, eagles and wildlife. Sullivan Bay is reached only by boat, seaplane or helicopter, with floatplanes landing right at the docks. The climate is cool and wet, in the temperate rainforest of the British Columbia coast.
