Dorobisoro is a small, remote settlement in the Central Province of Papua New Guinea, set in the rugged foothills of the mountains inland from Port Moresby, at around 700 metres above sea level. It lies in a green, hilly country of forest, ridges and rivers, in the great mountain hinterland that rises from the south coast of New Guinea toward the high peaks of the interior. Dorobisoro is a modest local community rather than a tourist destination, one of many isolated villages in this wild and beautiful part of Papua New Guinea, dependent on its airstrip for its link to the outside world. Dorobisoro is reached by light aircraft into its airstrip, and by rough tracks through the mountains, so any journey here needs local arrangements. The climate is warm and humid, tempered a little by the altitude, with heavy rainfall for much of the year.
