Billiluna (also known as Mindibungu) is a remote Aboriginal community in the south-eastern Kimberley of Western Australia, on the edge of the Tanami Desert near Lake Gregory (Paruku), a vast and ecologically important wetland system. It is a small community on Aboriginal land in one of the most isolated parts of the country, connected by long unsealed desert tracks including the route toward the Tanami Road. This is not a tourist destination: access to the community and much of the surrounding country requires permits and permission, and the region is genuinely remote outback where preparation is essential. Travellers passing through the wider area - typically well-equipped four-wheel-drive expeditions on the Tanami and Canning-country routes - should arrange any necessary permits in advance and treat the desert environment with respect. The dry season is the only reliable travel window.
