Ai-Ais is Namibia's hot-springs resort at the southern end of the Fish River Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world, within the |Ai-|Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. The name means roughly scalding or hot as fire in the Nama language, a reference to the sulphurous hot mineral springs that rise in the bed of the Fish River here and feed the resort's thermal pools and spa. Ai-Ais marks the finish of the famous multi-day Fish River Hiking Trail, one of Africa's classic wilderness walks, which descends the canyon from Hobas to the north.
