Things to Do in Trinidad

Trinidad is the Caribbean's most culturally diverse island — a melting pot of African, Indian, Chinese, Syrian, and European heritage that produces the most vibrant Carnival in the Western Hemisphere. Unlike the beach-focused islands, Trinidad attracts travelers for its food (doubles, roti, bake-and-shark), birdwatching (the island has more bird species than any other Caribbean island), and authentic culture untouched by resort tourism. Tobago (its sister island, 20 min by plane) has the beaches. Port of Spain is a working city, not a tourist town — that's the appeal. Carnival (February/March) is the single biggest draw.

Getting Around

Maxi taxis (shared route taxis) cover main routes for $3-8 TT. Private drivers for day trips. Rental cars available (drive on left). No Uber. Water taxis connect Port of Spain to San Fernando.
