SHL is the airport code for Shillong Airport, serving Shillong, the capital of the state of Meghalaya in the hilly northeast of India. Shillong is a cool, green hill station set among pine-covered hills and lakes at around 1,500 metres, long known as the Scotland of the East for its rolling landscapes and mild climate. It is a lively, cultured town, home to the Khasi people, with a strong music scene, colourful markets, colonial-era churches and Ward's Lake and Umiam Lake nearby.
