Rupsi is a place in the far west, or Lower Assam, of the northeastern Indian state of Assam, near the town of Dhubri on the mighty Brahmaputra River. It is best known for Rupsi Airport, an airfield originally built during the Second World War that was revived in recent years to reconnect this part of Assam by air. The surrounding region lies along the Brahmaputra, in the Bodoland area, near the borders with West Bengal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, a low, green land of rivers, tea and diverse cultures rather than a major tourist circuit. Nearby Dhubri is a historic river town with Hindu and Sikh pilgrimage sites and busy river traffic. Rupsi is reached by domestic flights to its airport, from Guwahati and Kolkata, and by road and rail. The climate is subtropical, with a hot, wet monsoon and a mild, drier winter that is the most comfortable season.
