Sint Maarten/Saint-Martin is a unique two-nation island — the Dutch side (Sint Maarten) and French side (Saint-Martin) share 87 square kilometers with no border controls. The result is an island where you can have French croissants for breakfast and Dutch cheese for lunch while spending US dollars everywhere. Maho Beach's famous low-flying plane landings, Orient Bay's clothing-optional beach, and Grand Case's "Restaurant Capital of the Caribbean" make this one of the most varied islands in the region. The island was devastated by Hurricane Irma in 2017 but has rebuilt impressively.
