London is one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities — a living museum of British history, a global financial center, and a cultural powerhouse with world-class theater, art, and dining. The city's neighborhoods are as diverse as countries: Soho's entertainment, Shoreditch's street art, Chelsea's elegance, Camden's alternative culture, and Notting Hill's pastel townhouses. Many of London's top museums (British Museum, Tate Modern, Natural History Museum) are free. The West End theater scene rivals Broadway. Peak season is June through August; spring (April-May) and early autumn offer pleasant weather with fewer tourists.

Getting Around

The Tube (Underground) is extensive with 11 lines ($3-6 per ride, use contactless or Oyster card for capped daily rates). Buses cover areas the Tube misses. Walking is excellent in central London. Black cabs and Uber are widely available.
