Villars-sur-Ollon is a mountain resort village in the Vaud Alps of southwestern Switzerland, above the Rhone valley in the canton of Vaud, at around 1,300 metres. Usually known simply as Villars, it is a relaxed, sunny, family-friendly resort with fine views across to the Mont Blanc massif and the Dents du Midi. In winter it is a ski destination, linked into the Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets ski area, with access toward the Glacier 3000 area near Les Diablerets for higher, year-round snow. In summer it becomes a base for hiking, mountain biking and golf amid alpine meadows, and it is well known for its international boarding schools. A charming cog railway climbs up from the valley town of Bex through the resort. Villars is reached by mountain road and by that railway, connecting to the main line along the Rhone valley. The climate is alpine, with snowy winters and mild summers.
