NNT is the airport code for Nan Airport, serving Nan, a historic town and province in the far north of Thailand, in a remote, mountainous region near the border with Laos. Long an independent kingdom, and later a semi-autonomous part of the northern Lanna world, Nan has preserved a distinctive culture and a wealth of old temples, and its quiet old town is celebrated as one of Thailand's most charming and least spoilt. Its most famous sight is Wat Phumin, a temple known for its remarkable 19th-century wall paintings in the Tai Lue style, including the celebrated Whisper of Love mural. Set among green hills and forests, Nan offers temples, traditions and slow, gentle travel far from the crowds. Nan is reached by flights into its airport from Bangkok, and by road through the northern mountains. The climate is tropical, cooler in the hills, with a wet monsoon season and a cool, dry season.
