Cepu is a town in Blora Regency, in the eastern part of Central Java, Indonesia, close to the border with East Java. It is best known historically for two things - teak and oil: the surrounding region produces some of Java's finest teak timber from its forests, and Cepu has been a centre of Indonesia's oil industry since colonial times, sitting on the Cepu Block that includes the major Banyu Urip field. The town has long hosted oil and gas training and technical institutions, giving it a distinct industrial identity. It is a working town rather than a tourist destination, of interest chiefly for its teak forests, its oil heritage and its position on the Java rail and road network. Central Java has a tropical climate with a wet season roughly October to April; the drier months are easier for travel across the region.
