Amahai is a coastal village and district on the south side of Seram, the large island at the heart of Maluku in eastern Indonesia. It sits on Elpaputih Bay just south of the regency town of Masohi, and functions as an administrative and transport point rather than a resort - it has a small airport and sits near the sea links that connect Seram with Ambon and the other Moluccan islands. For travellers, its real significance is as an access point to Seram itself: the mountainous, jungle-clad interior crowned by Manusela National Park, the celebrated Ora Beach on the north coast, and the island's rich Moluccan culture and birdlife. Indonesia's dry season, broadly around April to October in this region, is generally the more settled time to travel, though Maluku's weather patterns vary.
