Bhadrapur is a town in the Jhapa district of far-eastern Nepal, in the flat, fertile Terai lowlands of Koshi Province close to the Indian border - and home to Bhadrapur (Chandragadhi) Airport, the aerial gateway to the far east of the country. For travellers its role is as an arrival point and springboard: flights from Kathmandu land here to open up the celebrated tea gardens of the Ilam hills to the north, the green Jhapa countryside, and the eastern approaches toward Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain. The town itself is a busy, workaday Terai settlement rather than a sight in its own right, but its position makes it the practical starting point for eastern Nepal. The lowland climate is hot and humid, with a heavy monsoon from June to September; the cooler, drier months from October to March are the most comfortable for travel and for heading up into the hills.
