The city sits usefully central: the Trakia motorway runs the Sofia-Burgas axis just south, Plovdiv is about an hour west, the Kazanlak rose valley and its Thracian tombs lie half an hour north over the Sredna Gora hills, and the Black Sea beaches are two hours east. Bulgarian rentals include the required motorway e-vignette as standard. For the early-June rose festival around Kazanlak, book cars and rooms well ahead.
