Car rental in Plovdiv, Bulgaria works two ways: Hertz lists a city office on Bulgaria Boulevard and Sixt lists both downtown and Plovdiv Airport service, with Bulgaria's strong local agencies filling out the choice. Plovdiv's own airport at Krumovo, about 12 kilometres southeast, sees limited and seasonal traffic, so many visitors actually fly into Sofia and drive the Trakia motorway east in roughly an hour and a half - Bulgarian rental cars carry the required motorway e-vignette as standard. Leave the car outside the centre when you arrive: the Old Town's Revival-era lanes are cobbled, steep and partly pedestrianized, and the Kapana quarter is walking territory. The rental earns its keep beyond the city - Bachkovo Monastery, the Rhodope villages and the wine country south of town all sit in easy day-trip range.
