XZZ is a code associated with Zaragoza, the capital of the Aragon region in northeastern Spain, on the banks of the Ebro river. Although styled as an airport code, it refers to the city's main high-speed railway station, Zaragoza-Delicias, on the fast line between Madrid and Barcelona. Zaragoza is a large, historic city with a striking skyline dominated by the vast Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, one of Spain's most important pilgrimage churches, beside the Ebro. Other landmarks include the Gothic-Mudejar La Seo cathedral and the Aljaferia, a beautiful fortified Moorish palace and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was the birthplace of the painter Goya. Roughly halfway between Madrid and Barcelona, Zaragoza is easy to reach by high-speed train from both, in under two hours, as well as by road and its own airport. The climate is dry, with hot summers and cold winters.
