PBH is the airport code for Paro International Airport, the main and only international airport of Bhutan, the small Himalayan kingdom between India and China. Set in a deep valley at around 2,200 metres and surrounded by peaks, Paro is famous for one of the most dramatic and demanding airport approaches in the world, with only a handful of specially certified pilots allowed to land there. The town of Paro is a beautiful introduction to Bhutan, with traditional architecture, the imposing Rinpung Dzong fortress-monastery, and above all the iconic Taktsang, or Tiger's Nest, monastery clinging to a cliff high above the valley. Paro is the gateway to the whole country, including the capital, Thimphu, a short drive away. Visiting Bhutan requires arranging travel in advance through the country's tourism system. The climate is cool and mountainous, with mild summers and cold winters.
