MTT is the airport code for Minatitlan International Airport, serving the city of Minatitlan in the southeast of Veracruz state in Mexico, on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Minatitlan is an industrial city set on the Coatzacoalcos river, not far from the Gulf of Mexico, and is best known as a great centre of the Mexican oil industry, home to one of the oldest and largest oil refineries in the country. The airport, which also serves the nearby port city of Coatzacoalcos, is the main gateway to this busy industrial corner of the Gulf coast, a region of rivers, wetlands and tropical lowlands rather than a tourist resort. Minatitlan is reached by flights into its airport, from Mexico City and other cities, and by road along the Gulf. The climate is hot and humid, tropical, with heavy rains for much of the year.
