MLK is the airport code for Malta Airport, serving Malta, a small town in north-central Montana in the United States, not the Mediterranean country of the same name. Malta is the seat of Phillips County, set on the Hi-Line, the historic railway and highway route across the northern plains, in a wide landscape of prairie, ranch land and big skies near the Milk river. The area is best known for two things: superb wildlife, above all at the nearby Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for migratory birds, and dinosaurs, for this is some of the richest dinosaur country in the world. Malta is home to the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum, and the region has produced remarkable fossils from the Judith River rocks. Malta is reached by road along US Highway 2 and by its small airport. The climate is a dry continental one, with warm summers and very cold, snowy winters.
