LKN is the code for Leknes Airport, a small regional airport in the Lofoten islands of northern Norway, serving the town of Leknes in the municipality of Vestvagoy, in Nordland county, well above the Arctic Circle. Lofoten is one of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe: a chain of islands where jagged granite peaks rise straight out of the sea, sheltering deep blue fjords, white beaches and clusters of red-painted fishermen's cabins. Fishing villages such as Reine, Henningsvaer and Nusfjord, the summer midnight sun and the winter northern lights draw visitors from around the world. The airport lies close to the centre of Leknes and is served by Widere with small aircraft, mainly connecting through Bodo on the mainland. The E10 road links the islands together by bridges and tunnels. The climate is mild for the latitude, though wet and windy, with cool summers and dark winters.
