Ca Mau, rendered here as Kamau, is the southernmost province and city of Vietnam, set in the low, watery landscape at the far tip of the Mekong Delta. It is best known for Mui Ca Mau, the very southern point of the country, protected within a national park and UNESCO biosphere reserve of tidal mudflats and mangroves. Nearby, the U Minh Ha forest is a rare expanse of flooded melaleuca woodland rich in birdlife. Ca Mau city is the base for exploring the region by road and by boat along its dense network of canals. Travelers usually arrive by road from Can Tho or Ho Chi Minh City, and there is also a small airport with domestic flights. The climate is tropical, with a dry season from around December to April and a wetter season the rest of the year.
