Horsham is a regional city in the west of the state of Victoria in Australia, on the Wimmera river, the main centre of the Wimmera region, a productive farming area of wheat and other crops on the plains of western Victoria. It is a pleasant country city serving the surrounding agricultural district, with a relaxed pace and riverside parks. For visitors, Horsham is best known as a gateway to the Grampians, or Gariwerd, a spectacular range of rugged sandstone mountains a short drive to the south, famous for their bushwalking, rock formations, waterfalls, wildflowers and Aboriginal rock art, one of Victoria's finest natural areas. The wider region also has the pink-tinged Lake Tyrrell and the Little Desert. Horsham is reached by road and rail from Melbourne, along the Western Highway, and by a regional airport. The climate is warm and dry in summer and cool in winter.
