Front Royal is a town in Warren County, in the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, USA, best known as the northern gateway to Shenandoah National Park and the start of the famous Skyline Drive. At the meeting of the two forks of the Shenandoah River and the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, it is an outdoor-recreation hub - the Skyline Drive begins just south of town at Mile 0, and the Appalachian Trail passes nearby, making Front Royal a designated Appalachian Trail Community. The town also offers Skyline Caverns, canoeing and kayaking on the Shenandoah (it bills itself as the Canoe Capital of Virginia), wineries, and a historic Main Street. Set amid the mountains and river valleys of northern Virginia, it is an easy escape from Washington, D.C.
