Bahia Solano is a town on the Pacific coast of Colombia, in the department of Choco, in a remote and spectacularly wild region where dense rainforest meets the ocean. This is one of Colombia's great nature destinations, far from the beaten track, reached mainly by small plane or boat rather than road. The area is famous for whale watching: humpback whales come to these warm waters to breed and give birth, especially from around July to October, and can be seen offshore. Beyond the whales, Bahia Solano offers empty beaches, sport fishing, diving, waterfalls in the jungle, and the rich wildlife and Afro-Colombian and Indigenous cultures of the Choco. Nearby is the village of El Valle and the Utria National Park. Bahia Solano is reached by flights into its small airport, from Medellin and elsewhere, and by boat. The climate is hot, humid and very rainy, one of the wettest places on earth.
