Aboisso is a town in south-eastern Cote d'Ivoire, the administrative seat of the Sud-Comoe region, lying on the Soumie River not far from the Aby Lagoon and the Ghanaian border. It is Anyi Sanwi country - a branch of the Akan peoples - and the region blends river and lagoon life with fishing, farming and the trade routes toward the coast at Assinie and Grand-Bassam. Most visitors reach Aboisso by road from Abidjan, roughly two hours west, using it as a stop on the way to the Aby-Tendo-Bia lagoon complex and the beaches of the far south-east. The dry season from November to March is the most comfortable time to travel, when roads and lagoon excursions are at their easiest.
