Car rental at Pickle Lake is not a thing to count on: this is the end of the road - literally, Highway 599's terminus is the northernmost point on Ontario's provincial highway system - and the town of a few hundred people has no rental desks. Drivers bring cars up: the 599 runs about 290 kilometres north from the Trans-Canada at Ignace with essentially no services between, so the pattern is renting in Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout, fuelling to the brim at Ignace, and treating the drive as a committed leg. Pickle Lake's real transport identity is as a staging hub - flights and winter roads connect the fly-in First Nations communities farther north - so much of its traffic is charter, freight and seasonal. If your work needs a vehicle in town, arrange it through local contacts before travelling.
