Car rental at Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) is centralised and quick to navigate: the rental counters cluster in the exit hall near the arrivals area, with Enterprise, Avis, Budget, Alamo, National, Sixt, Europcar, Thrifty and regional operators such as Jumbo Car represented, and the rental fleet parked in the lot adjacent to the terminal. A couple of off-site providers run short shuttle hops. From SDQ, Santo Domingo's Zona Colonial is roughly half an hour west along the coastal highway, while the eastern resort corridors toward Juan Dolio and La Romana run the other way. Two Dominican-driving notes worth taking seriously: traffic in the capital is assertive and toll roads expect cash or local passes, so carry small bills; and book automatics ahead - they dominate demand but not every economy fleet.
