Car rental in Saint-Tropez works without an airport: Sixt lists a Saint-Tropez port-side office and Hertz lists the town among its French locations, while the nearest commercial airports are Toulon-Hyeres, about an hour west, and Nice, two hours or more up the coast in season. Think hard about summer timing - the peninsula's approach roads are famously jammed in July and August, when the boat shuttle from Sainte-Maxime across the gulf beats driving, and parking beyond the Parking du Port is scarce and expensive. The car pays off outside the honeypot hours: Pampelonne's beach clubs at Ramatuelle, the hill villages of Gassin and Grimaud, the Corniche des Maures toward Le Lavandou and the Var vineyards all open up with wheels - go early, or out of season, and the Riviera drives beautifully.
