Book weeks ahead for July and August - Milos has become one of the most popular Cycladic islands and the fleet sells out. Vehicle choice matters more here than on most islands: the tarmac linking Adamas, Plaka and Pollonia is easy, but many famous beaches hide behind dirt tracks where agencies expect a higher-clearance car, small SUV or ATV, and standard contracts may exclude rough roads entirely. Check the road clauses before chasing the south-coast beaches, and treat Sarakiniko's moonscape - paved access aside - as the gentle end of Milos driving.
