Lemoore is a small city in California's Central Valley, best known locally as the home of Naval Air Station Lemoore, and while the town itself has limited car rental presence, it sits within easy reach of the region's agricultural highways and larger service centers. Most visitors looking for a fuller range of rental options head to Fresno, roughly forty-five minutes to an hour northeast along Highway 198 and connecting routes, where airport and city-center counters offer a much wider selection of vehicles than anything available directly in Lemoore.
Once you have a car, Lemoore functions as a quiet base surrounded by the flat, intensively farmed landscape typical of the San Joaquin Valley - cotton, dairy operations and orchards stretch out along the county roads in every direction, and traffic is generally light outside of harvest-season truck activity. Highway 198 connects Lemoore both west toward the coast, through Kettleman City and eventually to the Central Coast beyond the Coast Ranges, and east toward Visalia and the foothill approach to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, a drive of roughly ninety minutes to two hours depending on your final destination.
Driving is on the right throughout the United States, and while the Central Valley's highways are generally flat, well maintained and toll-free, summer heat is intense and worth planning around, with air conditioning and extra water sensible precautions on any long valley drive. Tule fog is a genuine winter hazard across this part of California, sometimes reducing visibility dramatically on rural roads and highways alike, so slower speeds and increased following distance matter more here from November through February than at other times of year. Fuel stations are plentiful along the main highways, making Lemoore an easy, if modest, starting point for trips deeper into the valley or toward the Sierra foothills.
