From here the Diamond Circle is your obvious loop - Godafoss, Lake Myvatn, Dettifoss and Asbyrgi are all within easy reach on mostly paved roads, so a standard car works for the classic sights in summer. Choose a 4x4 if you plan highland F-roads, which legally require one, or if you are travelling outside the warm months, when winter tyres, wind and ice make North Iceland driving a different discipline.
